LeBron James allows his 11-year-old, 14-year-old sons to drink alcohol — and MADD is furious

US News 11-10-2018 TheBlaze - US 22

Basketball star LeBron James admitted that he allows his 11-year-old and 14-year-old sons to drink wine with him and his wife — but Mothers Against Drunk Driving is furious about this revelation.

What did he say?

James told reporters after Tuesday night’s Los Angeles Lakers’ practice that he allows his children to drink wine.

“I have very mature 14- and 11-year-olds,” he said.

“My 14- and 11-year-olds drink wine. That’s how mature they are. They’ll be driving next week,” he joked.

If there was any question if James was joking about the wine itself, he dispelled it with his next remarks, which expounded on his kids’ wine-drinking habits.

“Whatever dad or mom is having,” James told a reporter who asked whether the kids preferred white or red wine. “Put it on me, though, don’t put it on mom. Put it on dad, put it on dad.

James made the controversial admission after telling reporters that he doesn’t have to go out of his way to understand new music or movie fads, because his children bring it to him as exposure.

James also has a 3-year-old daughter with his wife.

“You know, everything that they [my teammates] listen to or are watching these days, my 14-year-old and my 11-year-old are watching as well,” James told reporters.

What did Mothers Against Drunk Driving say about James’ admission?

Mothers Against Drunk Driving — or MADD — issued a Wednesday statement condemning James’ behaviors.

In a tweet, the organization wrote, “We still have a long way to go to educate parents about dangers of underage drinking. Early age drinking is assoc w/dev of alcohol use disorder later in life+alcohol can alter brain dev that continues well into 20s. Many reasons to support 21 drinking age!”

Anything else?

James has been very outspoken about his love of wine, and in November, shared an Instagram post that received over 270,000 likes.

The post featured eight apparently empty bottles of wine with the caption, “Last night was mad real, fresh out of Advil —  Jesus grab the wheel[.] Sheesh!!! You had to be there to truly Understand. Even though I wish you were there so u could. #VinoChronicles P.S. don’t talk to me about wine like u know it if you really don’t know what you’re talking about. Seriously! Thank you!”
