FARGO — When most of the customers at Kroll's Diner were drinking coffee and eating breakfast on Monday, Jan. 18, Shawn Sigafoos already had a plastic jar filled with money for a West Fargo family left without a home due to the fire.

"When it comes down to it. What are we going to do in our community?" Sigafoos said. "We are going to help the hurting people. The Gospel is not complicated, you love God and in turn you love others, you love your neighbor."

When he got to Kroll's at 2:30 that morning, one of the cooks told Sigafoos that those people in the fire were family.

Sigafoos is not coming at this from someone wanting to just do a little good, he's been there.

"When I was 18-years-old, we lost our house to fire in Hot Springs, South Dakota, so I know it is real," Sigafoos said.

Mark Shaffer, whose mom, Kimberly, and her daughter Tina lost their home in the fire. The loss of the pets was especially heartbreaking for the family.

"There are a lot of memories on the table that are completely gone," Shaffer said, "There was a pet that was 17 years old (that) we had forever."

Sigafoos would like to see enough money raised to help the mom and daughter get back on their feet and move into a new home. Donations are being accepted at Kroll's Diner at 1033 45th St. S. in Fargo.

There is also a GoFund me site for the family. They are also accepting donations through Facebook as well.
