The Moorhead Spuds' home football game against Bemidji scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, has been canceled and the Spuds are making contacts throughout the region to find a replacement opponent.
A reason for the cancelation has not been announced.
"One team's not available to play, that's all I'll say," said Dean Haugo, Moorhead Activities Director.
Haugo said Moorhead is seeking a replacement opponent and has reached out to schools in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota but "no luck so far."
"We know it's an extreme long shot," he said.
During last year's prep football season, the likelihood of finding a replacement opponent would have been greater. That's not the case this year, Haugo said.
"Situations have changed, circumstances have changed," Haugo said, adding that he's heard of only a few game cancelations this season. "It's a very different environment ... Things are out of our control so we're moving on."
