WEST FARGO — After one of Bonanzaville's largest events and fundraising opportunities for the year had to be canceled at the last minute in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Christmas on the Prairie will return to the pioneer village this weekend.
Christmas on the Prairie is slated for 10 to 5 p.m., Saturday Dec. 4.
A full day of activities is planned with visits from Santa and Mrs. Clause, horse drawn carriage rides, a children's a craft show at Dawson Hall and other events throughout Bonanzaville.
Day admission is $10 for adults and students, $5 for kids 18 and under.
Volunteers will be serving a Christmas Dinner from noon to 5 p.m. The traditional meal will consist of ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, vegetables, dessert and a beverage. The meal cost is $10.
The annual event was planned last year but just days before the event, Bonanzaville Executive Director Beth Jansen said the event would have to be cancelled after numerous staff and volunteers had been identified as close contacts to positive COVID-19 cases within 24 hours.
"Our top priority is the safety of our guests, volunteers and staff, so the decision has been made to cancel Christmas on the Prairie," Jansen said in an email to members of the media. Stay safe everyone and we'll see you in 2021."
